Andy, the friendly barristo at my local Starbuck’s just won $47,000 on the lottery (this is true, I’m not making it up).

If you won, say $50,000, what would you do with it? Note: I do not use the expression “what would you spend it on?”

If you said buy a new car, TV, holiday etc – go to the bottom of the class.

The correct answer is: put it to work to make even more money.

People who are broke spend more money of “stuff” than some rich folks. Being a consumer keeps you poor (and brings little delight to the wealthy). These days it’s the Chinese who are rubbing their hands at “consumerism”.

Rich folk are smarter and usually invest their money in ways to make more. Educating yourself is a good way to improve your earning potential.

What did Andy do? He’s using it to set up a Jiffy Lube center back in New England. No more serving in coffee shops. He’s also thinking of better education for his kids. Top of the class Andy!

You can’t go wrong, gathering knowledge and educating yourself. One of my chief sayings is “knowledge is healing”.

US founding father James Madison is often quoted for saying:

"Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives."

He was thinking purely in political terms. However it seems to me this saying means just as much in the health and lifestyle field. You cannot afford to be ignorant; it could cost you your life if you end up in hospital.

It’s one of the slogans of the WHOLESOME LIVING LETTER that "knowledge is healing". If you know stuff, you can fix stuff!
